With many home repairs being quite costly, many people try “DIY (do it yourself)” repairs to try and save money. However, when it comes to plumbing, DIY might not be the best idea. Trying to manage plumbing problems by yourself can lead to larger issues and could potentially cost you more money in the long run. Plumbers have had years of schooling and specialize in diagnosing and repairing plumbing issues. If you have a plumbing emergency or want to change/upgrade the plumbing in your home, call Modern PHE.
1. Gurgling Water
If you hear gurgling water coming from either the toilet, while you are showering, doing a load of laundry, or running the dishwasher, there might be a problem. These are typically caused by poor or improper venting in the plumbing. Trying to fix it yourself may cause more problems, so give Modern PHE a call, we will be glad to help.
2. Discolored Water
Many people are closely watching their tap water due to occasional issues with water contamination. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible for the human eye, nose, or tongue to detect some changes in our water, while others are hard to miss. There are several reasons your water might have a tinge to it, a different taste, or even a smell to it. For example, if your water is white or cloudy, you may have air in your water lines. Water that is yellow/orange/brown indicates there is too much iron. You may, although it’s not likely, notice a sulfur smell to the water which could indicate an issue with your water heater. If you are experiencing any of these issues, call Modern PHE and we will send out one of our knowledgeable plumbers to get them fixed!
3. Low Water Pressure
Low water pressure can make everyday chores, like doing dishes, showering, watering the lawn, and laundry, daunting tasks. If you are experiencing low water pressure, try tying a plastic bag with a vinegar solution over the end of the faucet for a few hours to dissolve build-up that might be present. Also, check your main water line shut off valve to verify it is completely open. If neither of these improve the water pressure then you may have a bigger problem, such as a blockage or a leak. A plumber will be able to fix these issues and restore the water pressure to your home.
4. Burst Pipes
In the winter, pipes are susceptible to freezing which can cause them to burst. Burst pipes can create some serious problems if they are not quickly repaired/replaced. With the help of a plumber, you’ll be able to identify which pipes were affected and have them repaired/replaced.
5. Toilet Keeps Running
A running toilet can go unnoticed for a while since it doesn’t create a lot of noise. If your toilet is constantly running, the fill valve or the flapper may need to be replaced. If this happens and you are not comfortable fixing it yourself, call a plumber to repair it.
At Modern PHE, we offer a multitude of plumbing services that are both efficient and affordable! If you have plumbing questions or are in need of a plumber, give us a call!
